ElizaOS Token Experiences Significant Decline Following Founder’s Announcement

ElizaOS experienced a 19% decline over a 24-hour period, reaching an all-time low. This development followed an announcement from Eliza Labs founder Shaw Walters, who stated that the Eliza Foundation was being wound down.

Data from CoinGecko indicated the token was trading at $0.000285, having previously touched a record low of $0.000284 on Thursday. The market capitalization for ElizaOS stood at $2.1 million.

ElizaOS Token Status and History

Walters communicated that the token was defunct and confirmed his disassociation from its ownership and support. He clarified that the open-source Eliza software would continue its development independently of the token or the foundation. The decline marks a significant shift for a token that was once prominent in the AI-agent sector.

Prior to its rebranding as ElizaOS, the token, then known as AI16Z, achieved a peak market capitalization of $2.5 billion in January 2025, according to CoinGecko. ElizaOS functions as an open-source framework designed for building and managing AI agents. For those looking to explore the market, research into the best crypto apps can provide valuable insights.

Walters attributed the situation to a lawsuit and prevailing token culture. He disclosed that Eliza Labs had privately resolved a dispute with a group of tokenholders, represented by Burwick Law, by transferring its remaining treasury and funds to them. He characterized the lawsuit as “ridiculous” but noted the project's insufficient capital to continue legal opposition.

The lawsuit, initiated in April, named Eliza Labs, Walters, Sebastian Quinn-Watson, and the AI16Z DAO as defendants. The allegations included false advertising, deceptive practices, negligent misrepresentation, and unjust enrichment. Court records show that the named plaintiff's claims were dismissed with prejudice on July 8, while the proposed class's claims were dismissed without prejudice.

Walters further stated that there were no remaining funds for token buybacks and no foundation or future supply intervention to support the token. He also affirmed that he would not permit another token to be associated with Eliza as he continued to develop its underlying operating system. He indicated his intention to restart the project, leveraging his intellectual property, and reiterated that he would not support an Eliza token in the future.
