Storj Files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Amidst Token Price Decline

Storj, a decentralized storage provider, filed for voluntary Chapter 11 bankruptcy on July 26 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of West Virginia. This action followed a nearly 19% decline in the value of its STORJ token, which traded at approximately $0.06.

The company stated the filing aims to address historical financial obligations stemming from prior acquisitions and non-core business activities. Storj Labs, Inc. affirmed its intention to maintain uninterrupted operations of its decentralized storage network, customer services, and daily business functions, pending court authorization.

Storj's Restructuring Strategy and Operations

Storj anticipates operating as usual throughout the bankruptcy process, with the restructuring designed to optimize its business structure and establish shared ownership among its management team, the decentralized community, token holders, and investors. Kaloyan Raev, Storj's director of software engineering, characterized the filing as a decisive and positive development, noting the core business remains robust.

Raev added that the process would facilitate an orderly resolution of past obligations, allowing the company to refocus on its foundational decentralized principles. Inveniam, Storj's parent company, expressed support for the move, advocating for a renewed emphasis on the company's primary storage business and endorsing the reorganization for shared ownership.
