VARA, Securitize sign MoU for tokenization innovation in Dubai

The Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA) in Dubai and the tokenization platform Securitize have announced that VARA, Securitize sign MoU to advance tokenization and digital asset infrastructure across the United Arab Emirates and Dubai.

The VARA-Securitize MoU seeks to establish a collaborative framework to support regulated tokenization initiatives, encourage institutional participation, and strengthen Dubai’s digital asset ecosystem.

Agreement Details and Strategic Goals

Under the agreement, VARA and Securitize will support tokenization initiatives within Dubai, including projects initiated by VARA. The goal is to attract talent and explore the operational framework for tokenized financial products under Dubai's regulatory structure. This development aligns with the growing traction of tokenization initiatives in other fintech jurisdictions.

A VARA spokesperson indicated that the MoU's primary objective is to create a broad framework for collaboration, rather than focusing on a specific technological stack or product. The intention is to combine VARA’s regulatory perspective with Securitize’s experience in institutional tokenization to support the development of trusted, regulated tokenized markets in Dubai. Specific projects are not anticipated for immediate announcement, but the agreement will provide a framework for relevant tokenization initiatives.

Market Context and Securitize's Role

Securitize's co-founder and CEO stated that Dubai has become a leading jurisdiction for digital asset innovation, emphasizing the necessity of collaboration with regulators as tokenization transitions into mainstream financial infrastructure. In early July, VARA issued its 50th virtual asset service provider (VASP) license to Tribe Tokenisation FZE.

This announcement follows increased investor interest in tokenized assets, which has led to a 103% rise in total Real World Asset (RWA) holders to 3.2 million over the past 30 days. The total value of tokenized assets also increased by 2% to $38.5 billion during the same period. Securitize is currently the largest tokenization platform globally, managing $4.9 billion in tokenized assets, with Ondo Finance ranking second at $3.5 billion.
