XRP Expands Into DeFi as Wrapped Version Launches on Solana

Brad Garlinghouse has pointed to growing momentum behind XRP, highlighting increased adoption, broader ecosystem access, and expanding real-world utility.

His remarks follow the launch of wrapped XRP (wXRP) on the Solana network, a development that enables XRP to enter Solana’s decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem. The integration allows users to utilize XRP for activities such as lending, trading, and earning yield without needing to sell their holdings.

Cross-Chain Integration Unlocks New Liquidity

The introduction of wXRP creates a bridge between the XRP Ledger and Solana, improving liquidity flow between the two ecosystems. Each wXRP token is backed 1:1 by XRP, ensuring users maintain full exposure to the underlying asset while accessing new DeFi opportunities.

This initiative is supported by collaboration between the Solana Foundation and infrastructure providers LayerZero and Hex Trust, which together provide the technology enabling seamless cross-chain transfers.

The integration is already live, with support from platforms like Phantom Wallet and several decentralized exchanges, signaling growing adoption across the ecosystem.

XRP’s Role Evolves Beyond Payments

Traditionally viewed as a tool for payments and cross-border settlements, XRP is increasingly being positioned as a productive asset within DeFi. Industry voices, including Evernorth CEO Asheesh Birla, suggest XRP is moving toward a more active role in yield-generating financial systems.

Growing Institutional Interest Supports Trend
