MegaETH Discontinues Mega Mafia Accelerator Program

MegaETH has announced the discontinuation of its Mega Mafia accelerator program after two years and two cohorts. Shuyao Kong, a core MegaETH team member, communicated the program's sunsetting via an X post, stating that the underlying assumptions for the program were no longer valid. The accelerator had aimed to incubate “0-to-1” and “OMEGA” applications on MegaETH.

Reasons for Discontinuation

The program supported approximately 20 teams, which collectively secured around $80 million in funding from pre-seed to Series A rounds. MegaETH provided technical, managerial, and market-making support to these hand-picked teams. However, Kong indicated that the value generated by the incubator had not significantly benefited MegaETH directly, with most successfully incubated projects no longer building within the MegaETH ecosystem.

Several high-profile Mega Mafia projects opted to develop on alternative platforms. Global Token Exchange (GTE) chose to build its own chain, raising $25 million. Noise launched on Base after a $7.1 million seed round, and HelloTrade elected to build on Monad. Conversely, MegaETH-backed projects such as Avon and Valhalla appear to have ceased operations. Cap, a stablecoin project, is pursuing a multichain strategy. For those interested in earning passive income, exploring the best crypto staking platforms can provide valuable opportunities.

Future Strategy and Future Strategy

Kong noted that MegaETH did not take equity or ownership in the incubated startups, an approach intended to foster alignment with MegaETH's long-term goals. MegaETH's future ecosystem strategy will focus on supporting teams developing OMEGA applications, defined as projects exclusively viable on its platform and utilizing its wallet infrastructure and stablecoin.

The MegaETH mainnet launched in February, and the MEGA token launch in April was contingent on the performance of 10 MegaETH applications. MegaETH will now redirect its energy and funding towards “first-party applications,” specifically consumer-grade apps, rather than proceeding with a Mega Mafia 3.0 cohort. Kong stated that first-party applications enable direct relationships with end-users, offering the benefits and responsibilities associated with controlling the outcome, a contrast to MegaMafia's indirect strategy.
