Samsung Wallet to Integrate Stablecoin Support

Samsung announced plans to integrate stablecoin support into Samsung Wallet, with a demonstration featuring Circle's USDC. This development was unveiled at the Galaxy Unpacked event in London on July 22.

Samsung aims to enable stablecoins to reside alongside other digital assets within the Samsung Wallet application, which already manages payment cards, identification, and hotel keys. A specific launch date, the stablecoin issuer, or the underlying blockchain technology for these tokens were not disclosed.

Samsung's Crypto Evolution and Galaxy Card Launch

The initiative builds upon Samsung's prior engagements in the cryptocurrency sector. These include a Knox-based crypto wallet introduced in 2019 and hardware wallet support added in 2021. An October 2025 integration with Coinbase also extended to 75 million U.S. Galaxy users. This announcement coincided with the introduction of the Galaxy Card, Samsung's inaugural credit card.

The global stablecoin market currently holds a valuation approaching $310 billion. It operates under the framework of the year-old GENIUS Act.

Stablecoin Integration and Market Context

Lee Dinham, Samsung's product manager, indicated that this expansion would position Samsung as a leading smartphone brand to offer native stablecoin capabilities. This will facilitate rapid and secure digital value transfers. Stablecoins are digital tokens designed to maintain a stable value, typically pegged to a fiat currency like the U.S. dollar.

They are backed by reserves such as cash or short-term government debt. While Samsung displayed a mockup of the wallet holding USDC, the second-largest stablecoin by market capitalization, the company did not confirm a partnership with Circle. Details regarding whether the feature would be custodial or non-custodial were not provided.

Historical Crypto Support in Galaxy Devices

Samsung's history with cryptocurrency includes integrating crypto storage into Galaxy phones in 2019 via Knox. This is a hardware-isolated vault secured by PIN or fingerprint. This functionality later expanded to support Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tron, and Stellar. In 2021, Galaxy owners gained the ability to link hardware wallets, such as the Ledger Nano S, directly to this secure vault.

In October, Samsung enhanced its partnership with Coinbase, enabling direct cryptocurrency purchases within Samsung Wallet for 75 million U.S. Galaxy users. Drew Blackard, Samsung's senior vice president of mobile product management, described Samsung Wallet as a trusted tool for millions of Galaxy users.

Galaxy Card and Broader Payment Strategy

The stablecoin plan was introduced alongside the Galaxy Card, Samsung's first credit card in the United States. It is issued by Barclays on the Visa network. The card offers 5% cash back on Samsung purchases and 3% on Samsung Wallet transactions.

Kirk Stuart of Visa noted that the card reflects consumer expectations for integrated payment experiences within their daily digital interactions. Samsung characterized this broader effort as a secure payments and rewards experience.
