Trump Media Terminates Crypto Treasury and Scales Back Prediction Market Plans
Trump Media & Technology Group has terminated its plans to establish a Crypto.com-backed CRO treasury company and a broader digital asset agreement with the exchange. This decision was made mutually by Trump Media, Crypto.com, and Yorkville Acquisition Corp., a special purpose acquisition company.
The parties cited prevailing market conditions and evolving business and stakeholder priorities as reasons for the termination. This move marks a significant shift in Trump Media's digital asset strategy.

Impact on CRO Token and Market
The proposed venture would have licensed the Trump Media name for a company built on Crypto.com's Cronos blockchain and its native token, CRO. It was announced last year as the first and largest publicly traded CRO treasury company, aiming to accumulate CRO tokens and generate returns.
The CRO token is currently trading at $0.05, experiencing a sharp decline following the news. It holds a market capitalization of approximately $2.4 billion, reflecting the market's reaction to the termination.
Strategic Shifts and Future Plans
Interim CEO Kevin McGurn stated that Trump Media is narrowing its focus due to the increasing saturation of the digital asset treasury company market. He also noted that staking has become less central to Crypto.com's strategy, making this an opportune time to disengage. The increasing saturation of the digital asset treasury company market has led to a decline in the number of best crypto staking platforms.
Trump Media is also discontinuing plans to directly integrate prediction markets into Truth Social. Instead, the companies will pursue a marketing agreement to promote Crypto.com's prediction market products to Truth Social users.
Evolution of the Partnership
The relationship between Trump Media and Crypto.com had expanded over the preceding year. In October 2025, Trump Media announced plans for Truth Predict, a Crypto.com-powered prediction market integrated with Truth Social. The partnership between Trump Media and Crypto.com aimed to leverage the latter's expertise as one of the best crypto exchanges.
In December, the companies revealed plans for a publicly traded CRO treasury company with Yorkville Acquisition Corp., projected to hold billions of CRO tokens. In February, Crypto.com disclosed a $35 million donation to the pro-Trump super PAC MAGA Inc. The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency also granted conditional approval for Crypto.com's national trust bank charter application.
Democratic Scrutiny of Trump's Crypto Ventures
Democratic lawmakers have expressed criticism regarding Trump's expanding crypto ventures. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) urged the SEC to investigate former President Donald Trump's meme coin.
This request advocates for the agency to determine whether it facilitated fraud or unjust enrichment. It signifies growing Democratic scrutiny of Trump’s business activities in the crypto sector, anticipating the November midterm elections.
