Ethereum Foundation Warns of Potential Tool Disruptions Post-Glamsterdam Upgrade

The Ethereum Foundation (EF) has issued a warning regarding potential disruptions to certain wallets, indexers, and gas estimators. This is due to gas-model alterations planned for the upcoming Glamsterdam upgrade.

The EF's Protocol DevOps team stated that tools relying on a hardcoded maximum gas limit would cease to function and require updates. Developers were advised to test their systems on Plataberget, a public testnet. Users of various crypto wallets should be aware of these upcoming changes.

Glamsterdam Rollout Timeline and Developer Guidance

Plataberget launched on August 13, according to the upgrade tracker Forkcast. The Glamsterdam fork is scheduled for network activation on Thursday, preceding its deployment on the Sepolia and Hoodi testnets. This timeline is crucial for developers to prepare for the changes.

The foundation recommended that developers review software that presumes 21,000 gas is sufficient for all ETH transfers. They also advised reviewing software that utilizes only a single gas dimension for transaction cost estimation. These steps are vital for ensuring compatibility with the new gas model.
