Polygon Extends Its Stablecoin Payments Infrastructure to Solana
Polygon Labs has announced that Polygon Extends Its Stablecoin Payments infrastructure to the Solana network, broadening the reach of its Open Money Stack. This suite of stablecoin payments tools now allows businesses operating on Solana to access a unified platform for managing financial transactions, including funding from bank accounts, cross-chain crypto transfers, and payouts to customers and suppliers globally.
This development signifies that Polygon Extends Its Stablecoin Payments infrastructure to a rival blockchain, broadening its reach in the digital payments sector.
Simplifying Crypto Payments for Businesses
The Open Money Stack addresses the complexities often associated with crypto payments. While sending tokens is straightforward, the process of moving funds from a bank account to a wallet, converting them, and then returning them to a recipient's bank account typically necessitates engaging multiple providers, each requiring separate integrations and contracts.
Polygon's solution consolidates these functions into a single technical connection and commercial relationship, offering businesses the flexibility to adopt the entire stack or integrate specific components into their existing systems. Through this platform, Solana-based businesses can connect various funding routes, such as bank transfers, card payments, cash, and crypto.
They can also establish embedded wallets, route and convert funds across multiple networks, including Polygon, Ethereum, and Tron, and facilitate payouts to banks, cards, or other wallets. For example, a remittance provider could accept dollars from a sender, deliver USDC on Solana, and then connect the recipient to a bank for payout.
Solana's Growing Role and Polygon's Strategy
Sandeep Nailwal, co-founder and CEO of the Polygon Foundation, noted that financial institutions and fintech companies seeking to utilize crypto often encounter challenges in connecting to existing customer accounts and payment systems. He indicated that the addition of Solana enables more businesses to build on their preferred network.
Cross-border payments firm Kira is among the initial adopters of this integration on Solana, utilizing it to convert stablecoin transfers into fiat currency for international supplier payments. This expansion underscores Solana's increasing prominence as a payments platform, having processed over $5 trillion in stablecoin volume during the current year, according to the Solana Foundation.
The network recently introduced an institutional settlement standard, developed with input from J.P. Morgan, and implemented its Alpenglow upgrade. For Polygon, this move further advances its broader payments strategy, which includes the acquisition of crypto-cash firm Coinme, demonstrating how Polygon Extends Its Stablecoin Payments capabilities across the blockchain ecosystem.
